I am an academic spine surgeon with an interest in spinal fusion biology and degenerative diseases of the spine. I have also had an interest in the accuracy of spinal instrumentation placement using a variety of techniques. I have had the opportunity to work with a company called Augmedics and I have helped them develop an augmented reality guided navigation system called the Xvision, which is a device with a head-mounted display(HMD) used to place spinal instrumentation. I was the first surgeon to utilize this device to place spinal instrumentation in a human in June of 2020. I have subsequently been doing research to study the use of the Xvision in patients for spinal surgery.
